An ILS is a standard precision instrument approach system providing lateral runway centerline guidance (Localizer) and vertical glide path guidance (Glide Slope).

The Localizer operates on VHF (108.10 to 111.95 MHz) to provide azimuth runway alignment. The Glide Slope operates on paired UHF frequencies providing a standard 3-degree descent profile down to Decision Altitude (DA).
