Understanding Radials vs Headings
A radial is always a magnetic bearing emanating outward from the VOR transmitter (from 001° to 360°). Being on the 090 radial means your aircraft is geographically located east of the VOR station regardless of your aircraft heading.
TO/FROM Flags and CDI Needle Tracking
The TO flag indicates that flying the selected OBS course will take you toward the station; the FROM flag indicates you are flying away from the station.
Intercept angles typically range from 30° to 45° to track the desired radial smoothly without overshooting.
